Dear Reader,
The market is cyclical and every day has its ups and downs.
Equities move on 'no news' or sometimes move contrary to the market.
"The market was down, but my stock went up." For the long
term investor, this roller-coaster ride is all part of the scenery
and not an unusual event. But every so often, an equity does
surpass our expectations. We feel that way about Sirius
Satellite Radio (NasdaqNM: SIRI).
At the end of August, we profiled SIRI noting that it was one of
only two players in the satellite radio game. The other is
XM Satellite Radio (XMSR), which trades in the $30 range.
The tremendous potential for Sirius, again being the only competitor
to XM, was evident to us. XM had experienced its "run" and
had leveled out. Sirius was trading in the much more affordable
high $2 range and had established relatively limited market share.
A lot can happen in a month. While XM has hit the common snags
of any industry leader, i.e. missing estimates and experiencing
technical problems, Sirius was picking up speed in accomplishing
its business model and increasing its market share. The news
about SIRI that came out right after our last report caught
our eye and then it appeared that every other day in the last month
Sirius was releasing more positive news and experiencing a notable
increase in both its stock price and trading volume.
Since we last talked

And then, there was
today's news:
Wednesday October 6, 11:36 am ET
Howard Stern
to Move to Sirius Radio
NEW YORK (Reuters) - "Shock jock"
Howard Stern will jump to Sirius Satellite Radio (NasdaqNM:SIRI
- News) in January 2006, moving his controversial show from the
public airwaves and giving the nascent satellite radio sector a
big boost.
By luring Stern away from his
current employer, Viacom Inc.'s Infinity Broadcasting, the $500
million, five-year deal announced on Wednesday by Stern and Sirius
will propel the new business built on attracting subscribers to
dozens of radio stations broadcast digitally. Sirius, whose shares
rose about 14 percent to their highest level in more than two years
in early trading, gets a boost in its rivalry with its larger competitor
XM Satellite Radio Holdings Inc. (To read the complete

Howard Stern signs
deal with Sirius Shock jock to leave Viacom for
satellite radio
world
By CBS MarketWatch
4:03 PM ET Oct. 6,
2004
NEW YORK (CBS.MW) -- Shock jock
Howard Stern shook up the radio world again Wednesday, announcing
plans to leave longtime employer Viacom and move his controversial
show to Sirius Satellite Radio, thus abandoning the public airwaves
he's been a big part of for decades.
The move sent shares of Sirius
(SIRI: news, chart, profile) rocketing 15 percent, to close at $3.84
as investors speculated that Stern's large, loyal and outspoken
audience will boost its business.
That's a strong move, given that
total production costs including cast, staff and construction of
a studio are expected to be about $100 million per year for the
Stern show, Sirius said. Meanwhile, shares of rival XM Satellite
Radio (XMSR: news, chart, profile) fell 5 percent. (To

And this also happened
since our August 31st report:
J.P. Morgan upgraded its rating on Sirius
Satellite Radio to "overweight" from "neutral," citing the company's
subscription growth acceleration and increasing market share.
The research firm said Sirius' subscription growth is putting it
on track to meet growth targets for the third quarter and 2004.
J.P. Morgan forecasts a 36% acceleration in net adds for the third
quarter and a 106% acceleration for the fourth quarter. In addition,
J.P. Morgan estimates Sirius will increase its market share from
19% in the second quarter to 24% in the fourth quarter. Sirius'
deal with the National Football League is popular and narrowing
the sales gap between Sirius and XM Satellite Radio Holdings in
many stores, J.P. Morgan said. By 2010, the research firm expects
to see satellite radio in 30% of U.S. households.
With all this momentum building, we at Stockupticks thought
you might want to take another look at this company.
