Samaritan Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (AMEX: LIV) |
 |
Dear Reader,
At StockUpTicks we’ve been brazen in our pronounced affinity and affection for biotechnology based companies. But while that exuberance is unbridled for the industry and all the positive events heretofore, we are not ready to paint all biotech companies with the same benevolent brush.
Instead, we endeavor to identify companies with unique and potent technology honed in the FDA approval process and whenever possible, endorsed by their affiliation with leading research laboratories, often in the academic setting. This, we have found, is quite often a component and pre-cursor to success as a company and eventually as an equity.
With this in mind, we feel fortunate to have ‘discovered,’ if you will, a company that appears to embody the aforementioned values. It had been brought to our attention by a respected stockbroker who understands biotech better than any we’ve ever met. We now feel ready to showcase this intriguing biotechnology firm of 250 drug candidates in fields ranging from Alzheimer's, Aids, Cancer and Heart Disease to you, our dear reader.
Biotech can be a tough read but we’d like to think we’ve broken the story down into digestible components so that you too can see what we find compelling about this equity. We kindly suggest you take a moment to review the profile below.

About Samaritan |
 |
Samaritan Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (AMEX:LIV) is a drug development company driven to discover, develop and commercialize new, innovative drugs for AIDS, Alzheimer’s, Cancer and Heart disease. Samaritan is currently advancing eight promising compounds out of its rich pipeline of 250 possible drug candidates, all of which have the potential to create revenue-generating opportunities. In addition, the majority of Samaritan’s patented drugs are credentialed with peer-reviewed journals and some with National Institutes of Health ( NIH) grants.
Drug Development
HIV Phase IIb/III Drug Program: Samaritan is currently developing SP-01A through PIIb/III pivotal clinical human trials for HIV drug resistant patients who are failing triple therapy.
Alzheimer's Drug Program: Samaritan has accomplished all the preclinical trials necessary to file for an IND for its Alzheimer's drug SP-233.
Samaritan Corporate
Samaritan’s business offices are located in Las Vegas, Nevada. The main business of the corporate office is drug development and business development; with research and discovery, taking place at Samaritan Laboratories, Georgetown University, Washington, D.C. Samaritan Corporate focuses on accomplishing the pre-clinicals required to file for Investigational New Drug applications, (IND's), Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Human Clinical Trials and everything necessary to get drug candidates regulatory approval. Its strategy is to partner most of its drug candidates with major pharmaceuticals, except for the ones that it can financially carry alone.

"Samaritan Pharmaceuticals: "We LIV....to Save Lives"
a
AIDS/HIV Program:
Samaritan’s proprietary HIV drug, SP-01A, headlines the company’s pipeline
AIDS/HIV:
SP-01A is an oral entry inhibitor, CCR5, attachment inhibitor. Although, SP-01A is the lead HIV drug, preclinical studies for SP10 and SP03 have suggested similar characteristics.
Phase IIb Monotherapy Study:
Samaritan is currently conducting a new “Multi-Center Double-Blind, Randomized, Placebo-Controlled Study of Orally Administered SP01A as Monotherapy Treatment of HIV-Infected Patients” Phase II trial that will demonstrate efficacy as an antiviral and allow us to gather dosage data.
Phase I/II Study:
The safety and dose response of orally administered SP-01A in HIV infected patients was assessed in this study. SP-01A demonstrated proof of concept with significance in two crucial areas, viral load and improvement in quality of life. The inhibitory effect of SP-01A on the entry of HIV and multi-drug resistant HIV viral strains reinforced our conviction that it targets the host cell, rather than the virus itself, rendering SP-01A less susceptible to emerging resistances than any other drugs on the market.

Alzheimer’s Disease Drug Development Program:
Samaritan’s Alzheimer’s technology features four promising therapeutics (SP-04, SP-04m, SP-08 and SP-233); two neural stem cell differentiation therapies (SP-sc4 and SP-sc7), a predictive diagnostic and an Alzheimer’s animal model to test new drugs.
Stem Cell Therapy (Non-Embryonic) SP-4: Neural Cell Growth and Differentiation: Samaritan has shown that it’s neuronal stem cell therapy drugs (SP-sc4 and SP-sc7) can induce dormant brain neuronal stem cells to differentiate rapidly into adult neuron cells as a novel treatment for Alzheimer's disease and other neurodegenerative disorders. Samaritan has received an NIH grant to further develop this technology.
Alzheimer’s Drug SP-233: Samaritan’s preclinical trials suggest Alzheimer’s disease therapy, SP-233, has the ability to protect neurons against beta-amyloid-induced toxicity. It was shown to bind to the beta-amyloid peptide, to prevent its oligomerization and entry into neurons, to protect neuronal mitochondria from beta-amyloid-induced damage and to maintain neuronal cell energy levels.
Alzheimer’s Predictive Diagnostic: Samaritan has found that the central nervous system’s DHEA is increased in patients having Alzheimer’s, contradicting previous reports alleging DHEA levels in Alzheimer’s patients are abnormally low. This research has been the basis of Samaritan’s Alzheimer’s diagnostic test and the granting of research funds from the National Institutes of Health. Advantage: The Alzheimer’s diagnostic is a simple blood test, exceedingly superior to the invasive spinal taps or expensive MRIs currently used by competitors. Samaritan has received an NIH grant to further develop this technology.
Alzheimer’s Animal (Rat) Model: Samaritan has developed an animal model that mimics the human phenotype of Alzheimer’s disease pathology and is used to test the efficacy of new Alzheimer's medications. Samaritan has used this animal model to test its own Alzheimer's drugs and expects to out-license this technology to other pharmaceutical Companies to do the same.
aaa
Breast Cancer Diagnostics:
Samaritan has performed a series of preclinical studies to develop a simple diagnostic blood test for breast cancer. To date, an invasive biopsy has been the only way to determine whether a potential trouble spot is cancerous or benign. A non-invasive blood test could be the first diagnostic tool to predict if a breast tumor is cancerous, with the added possibility to detect one single aggressive cancer cell out of millions of blood cells. It could also be used as a monitoring tool to measure the success of chemotherapy, radiation and other drug treatments for aggressive cancer and ultimately allow patients to avoid the high costs and negative effects of unnecessary chemotherapy.
Cardiovascular Drug Program:
With cardiovascular disease the leading cause of death worldwide, Samaritan has discovered a peptide used to clean the blood of excessive cholesterol in acute high cholesterol conditions. Sp-1000 plays a role in transformation and binding of LDL cholesterol and raising HDL, the good cholesterol, with immediate results. The majority of the preclinical studies have been performed to apply to the Food and Drug Administration for an Investigational New Drug test application.
