 Global Ecology Corp. (Pink Sheets: HSYN)

Dear Reader,

Question: What industry earns $450 billion annually, trailing only power generation and oil, in gross revenue?

Answer: Water treatment and processing

And today’s featured company is looking to penetrate the increasingly popular environmental arena, focusing foremost on water solutions. With both remaining presidential candidates professed environmentalists with platforms to support that claim, it might be wise to take a look at today’s featured company and its future.  It's an interesting story about the importance of water in an ever changing world and a company that is putting it at the forefront of its endeavors.

Homeland Security Network Announces Name Change to Global Ecology Corporation

The headline says it all in short form, but HSYN CEO Peter Ubaldi and Chairman Joseph Battiato elaboated to make the reasons clear to shareholders:

"Our business model is changing rapidly and it is appropriate for our company to be renamed to more accurately reflect our new direction. Once the legal formalities are completed, we will also have a change in our ticker symbol and CUSIP number. In the meantime, we will begin using the name Global Ecology Corporation as a DBA," said Ubaldi.

Chairman Joseph Battiato said, "We are in the midst a period of remarkable transformation of our company. Over the next few months, we expect the need for this name change will become increasingly clear and obvious. We look forward to providing our shareholders with details of new developments in the near future."

    About Global Ecology Corp.

Homeland Security Corporation, doing business as Global Ecology Corp. ("GEC""HSYN"), (www.geco.us) partners with emerging providers of unique, environmentally friendly and security-related technology. GEC is pursuing a strategy that enables partners and prospective targets to access public capital markets and take advantage of Global Ecology’s unique worldwide distribution capabilities.

In addition, GEC provides partner companies with an extensive network of relationships with key domestic and international government officials, large suppliers, and organizations dedicated to environmental restoration. Global Ecology believes it is positioning itself to have a major global impact on improving both water and soil environmental systems in the near future.

GEC provides ecological cleaning and remediation services to recover the usability of water and land around the globe. GEC has obtained agreements to aggregate environmental restoration technologies in the water and soil pollution treatment field. GEC holds these agreements because of its exclusive and non –exclusive distribution and deployment rights to major FDA/EPA-approved and patented technologies in the water treatment and soil remediation field.

GEC’s proprietary water treatment technologies are applicable to nearly any size body water in order to remove all types of harmful bacteria and algae pollution. Water treatment and processing is a $450 billion annual worldwide market, trailing only power generation and oil, and Global Ecology Corporation is on tract to acquire its market share.

Through its agreement with Huma-Clean, a Texas-based company, the company offers a soil pollution technology that deploys a process converting polluted sludge removed from lake bottoms and waste water facilities into high-grade top soil.

This soil product, labeled “Gourmet Soil”,
is used in a variety of applications to include farming, golf course construction and home gardening.

Each project will continually use GEC’s technology because even after cleaning up a lake or other area, the technology may in many cases be continually used to keep it clean. This means trailing income in each project for GEC beyond what has already been projected.

Water quality problems are at crisis proportions across the globe. It is estimated that less than three percent of the world’s water is currently potable or drinkable. Fresh water is already in short supply for more than 20 percent of the world’s population.
Over one billion people lack access to fresh water and 2.4 billion people do not have rudimentary sanitary systems.
It is also estimated that 6,000 children die each day from dehydration or diarrhea due to lack of access to clean water.

It also presents a security risk to the U.S. and other developed countries. The unequal distribution of potable water around the globe has historically created intense conflicts. Independent of the moral imperative to address this problem prior to its potentially devastating economic, humanitarian and health consequences, it also represents a security risk to the U.S. and other developed countries. The unequal distribution of potable water around the globe has historically created intense conflict. According to the Pacific Institutes Water Conflict Chronology, water supplies have been the cause of at least 31 conflicts around the world since 2000, including attempted terrorist attacks. GEC has also recognized that the accumulation of polluted sludge in the world’s lakes and rivers has become a major worldwide problem.

There are 261 river basins shared by two or more countries
and 13 shared by five or more countries.

Chemical runoffs from farm-based fertilizers and pesticides are causing nutritional imbalances and heavy metal deposits are destroying vital eco-systems necessary for the survival of many aquatic species. There is also need to address the increasing volume of trash building up in landfill areas. In addition, the world is experiencing an extreme shortage of nutritious soil that is needed to produce food for growing populations in developing countries. This shortage can be relieved using Gourmet Soil, the result of treated polluted sludge.

    GEC and the Market for Water and Soil Treatments

Cutting-Edge Technology that is potentially world-changing in water purification

Global Ecology has been given exclusive and non-exclusive regional distribution and deployment rights to a patented safe acid technology that represents a substantial opportunity in the growing multi-billion dollar global water purification market.. The formula is a unique copper sulfate-based micro-biocide with a wide assortment of non-toxic applications, and is totally harmless to humans and animals when applied properly. It functions as an algaecide, herbicide, fungicide and bactericide with excellent efficacy against bacterial and viral diseases. It is particularly effective in combating all types of algae in nearly any size body of fresh or salt water.  An additional benefit of this product is that it will significantly interrupt the reproduction cycle of mosquitoes and midge when introduced to their breeding areas.

GEC's distribution agreement gives it exclusivity by both geography and customer

GEC's geographic carve-outs are in developing international markets committed to protecting intellectual property rights. GEC currently is focusing its marketing activities in South America, Mexico and China. Exclusive potential customers include the U.S. Department of Defense, Department of Agriculture, Department of Homeland Security and the Federal Emergency Management Agency and countries whose initial contact is made through the United Nations. Certain other countries and states are also included in this agreement.

THE UNITED NATIONS

GEC has supported two events at the United Nations and sponsored a third on May 2, 2008.  This dinner reception is part of the Company’s association with International Renewable Energy Organization (“IREO”), a Brazilian private partner of the United Nations. In attendance were  Ambassadors, Government Officials and entertainment celebrities.  Peter Ubaldi, President & CEO of  GEC has been appointed as Chairman of IREO’s Water Restoration Committee. GEC has proposed its remediation technology for Lake Rodrigo in Brazil as part of its expanding marketing efforts in Central and South America. Global Ecology officials recently attended a gathering in the United Nations where they received a prestigious award for the introduction of its life-saving water treatment technology.

At the corporate level, GEC is differentiated from other providers of water purification solutions in terms of its relationships and international distribution and sales channels. Its business model is asset-light and its expertise is in the sales, marketing and distribution of compelling security-themed technologies. While fluent in water purification, GEC's value-add to the copper sulfate product is specifically in establishing a global sales channel through its connections to key United Nations personnel responsible for pursuing the UN's Millennium Development Goals.

By aligning itself with critical decision-makers in the UN and its supported non-governmental organizations (NGOs), GEC management intends to drive sales of it's Water Purification system by first securing the advocacy of top governmental representatives in key emerging markets. GEC believes its approach gives its government sponsorship a critical edge in addressing drinking water issues.

GEC is primarily focused on drinking and algae treatments at the current time. Future plans include an expansion to water cooling towers, ship ballast water, waste water treatment, produce disinfecting and the reduction of fly larvae populations in third world countries.  GEC maintains a differentiated approach to sales efforts, too, focusing exclusively on international channels. That decision is a direct result of the critical challenge faced in providing potable water to the areas of the world that will experience the most future population growth in the "mega-cities" surrounding areas like Mexico City, Sao Paolo and Lagos.

The head of General Electric’s water business estimates that by 2015 there will be 26 mega-cities with populations of over 10 million. Providing clean water to those populations in need represents a monumental challenge for traditional purification methods and a vast opportunity for GEC.

The Worldwide Fresh Water and Polluted Soil Crisis

Global Ecology's Water Purification System

Global Ecology is currently in final negotiations with several foreign governments and agencies for use of both its water and soil treatment technologies. Current projects under consideration range from preventing massive algae blooms in high-profile lakes, the removal of polluted lake bottom sludge, treating soils in land fill projects, to providing safe drinking water for small towns and villages in developing countries.

water plots from the air (that require treatment)

Management believes the company is in position to become a highly profitable environmental restoration industry leader

GEC is in the process of marketing its systemas an effective defense against a range of infectious and rapidly-spreading diseases, including, but not limited to the following:

Malaria and dengue fever due to its mosquito control properties; and Cholera, typhoid fever, gastroenteritis, dysentery and other waterborne diseases. While the specific formulations vary in treatments for the above applications, they share a common trait: all create and maintain a very low pH environment for a long enough period of time to break the cell wall of fungal and bacterial agents, break down the envelope of viral agents and keep these infectious agents from reproducing and replicating.

What makes the copper sulfate / multi-acid formula technologically superior is its unique ability to maintain optimal suspension in water, avoiding altogether the precipitation problem common in previous water treatments, as it dramatically slows dissipation rates - even in high temperature environments.

Global Ecology's Water Purification System and Huma-Clean: a one-two punch.

Global Ecology has been awarded exclusive regional distribution and deployment rights to a patented safe acid technology that represents a substantial opportunity in the growing multi-billion dollar global water purification market. The company believes this technology is potentially world-changing disruptive technology in the water purification space as a cutting-edge safe acid chemical treatment. The formula is a unique copper sulfate-based micro-biocide with a wide assortment of non-toxic applications, but is 100% harmless to humans and animals when applied properly. It functions as an algaecide, herbicide, fungicide and bactericide with excellent efficacy against bacterial and viral diseases. It is particularly effective in combating all types of algae in nearly any size body of fresh or salt water.

The formula has nearly the identical short-term efficacy as chlorine, but without chlorine’s negative effect on the Earth’s ozone layer. In addition, it is safe to handle, works exponentially longer and is significantly less expensive to use than either chlorine or bromine. The formula is effectively a water treatment plant in a 55-gallon drum. It can be manufactured in high quantities at a low price point and safely deployed by low-skilled personnel.

Soil Remediation • A Joint Venture with Huma-Clean

Huma-Clean is a soil remediation company headquartered in Texas that specializes in strictly organic, bio-remedial soil treatment systems. The company’s patented FDA/EPA-approved technology allows it to treat polluted sludge before or after it has been removed from lake bottoms and waste water treatment facilities. The company’s technology removes hazardous deposits of heavy metals, dangerous pesticides and other human-caused pollutants. Additional processing then turns the sludge into a high-grade, nutrient-rich soil that can be resold for farming, golf course development and gardening. Under the terms of most agreements, Huma-Clean and Global Ecology are compensated for the removal of the sludge from the contaminated area. The sludge is then deposited at the company’s local collection center and the remediation process is applied. The finished product is then bagged and sold on the open-market as a variety of plant-nutritious products under the Company’s “Gourmet Soil” label.

Huma-Clean specializes in bioremediation of polluted sites. Contamination is treated in place and aerated by encouraging natural bioremediation to take place without trucking, dredging, or disposal to landfills. Based in Palestine, Texas, Huma-Clean has been cleaning up pollution and containments in soil and water since 1995.

Huma-Clean uses a mixture of several different organic components to breakdown and eliminate contaminants. Basically, the hydrocarbons are broken down into CO2 and H2O. The Oxygen levels will increase causing the bacteria to become more active and consume more contaminants.

Huma-Clean's organic components are water soluble which allows treatment to take place at all levels of waste water. Suspended solids are taken to the bottom where both Aerobic and Anaerobic reactions take place to break them into solids. The pH of the water is maintained better then 6 & 8. Once the pH and DO are under control, the bad bacteria like E. coli and Vibrio vulnificus are eliminated by good bacteria.

Once the pH and DO are under control, the harmful bacteria like E. coli and Vibrio vulnificus are eliminated by the good bacteria. The soil is tilled and treated regularly to remove the contamination.

The Huma-Clean system virtually eliminates the need for dredging or trucking material to the landfill for disposal and has been successfully used for Soil Remediation and Waste Water Treatment for:

• hog operations and textile mills
• chicken farms and dairy lagoons
• municipalities
• oil & gas wells and salvage yards
• cotton fields, steel mills and pip foundries
• and all types of agricultural operations.
First Soil Treatment Order – Juarez Mexico

In 2008, Global Ecology entered into a Joint Venture agreement with Huma-Clean and the Mexican Government, to remediate over eight million cubic yards of polluted sludge from waste water treatment facilities in the Juarez area. The total value of the purchase orders, involving several of the partnership’s soil-based products, is $2 million with delivery to begin this June

According to Mickey Cox, President of Huma-Clean, “This sale only represents 60,000 cubic yards of our Organic Gourmet Soil and Organic Soil Plus products. Based on this site’s available quantities, the Company’s projecting total sales from this site will exceed $200 million. It’ll probably take another few years to process this site, but the Company’s already working on contracts for additional projects that will produce three or four times more Organic Gourmet Soil than what is currently in Juarez.

“Total Pollution Solution” Strategy

Freshwater lakes and lake bottoms are susceptible to pollution arising from pesticides and fertilizers used in farming and livestock activities. As a result of this pollution, the lake sludge formed by dead algae and other aquatic plant life becomes polluted, endangering the body of water’s entire ecosystem.

It is not necessary to have toxic pollutants to create deteriorating conditions in an enclosed body of water. Common chemicals like nitrates and phosphorus from fertilizer runoff are virtually harmless to humans in small quantities, but make the water highly nutritious for both good and harmful plant life, like algae. When the harmful plants exist in excessive numbers their natural life cycles create conditions whereby the plants deplete the water’s oxygen supply and destroy the rest of the ecosystem’s aquatic species.

Global Ecology’s unique approach will be to remove and remediate the polluted sludge, then treat the water to prevent further lake bottom sludge accumulation. Once the sludge is removed, the company will apply the Huma-Clean technology to create a valuable byproduct that will be sold as highly nutrient-rich organic compost with a wide spectrum of agriculture applications.

GEC believes that its blend of technologies targeting both water and soil presents
a unique value proposition to governments and other customers
since Global Ecology has the ability to solve these two separate but related problems.

A single company platform for combined water and soil restorations.

Agreements under negotiation

China

GEC's most ambitious project is a highly contaminated lake in China. The lake, one of the largest in China, covering an area of  approximately 840 square miles  is a major source of drinking water for people living in the region.

The Lake basin accounts for about 3 percent of the country's land area and 8 percent of its population. Historically a rich and fertile area, it has become one of the most populous and prosperous regions in the country. But tremendous economic growth and the huge population of the area are putting the lake under increasing environmental pressure, resulting in deteriorating water quality in recent years.

In spite of ten years of treatment costing billions of yuan, the pollution in the lake continues to worsen. The quality of the lake continues to deteriorate despite more than a decade of effort from both the central government and local authorities. Flood control standards are still low and the pollution of the lake remains serious.

The lake’s environmental problems include accelerated eutrophication, or aging, caused by nitrogen and phosphorus enrichment. These materials cause an overgrowth of algae and further deterioration, including oxygen depletion. The lake is probably also contaminated with potentially toxic substances originating from increased agricultural, domestic and industrial activities. One of the basic causes of the pollution lies in sewage treatment measures lagging far behind the rapid social and economic development of the Yangtze River Delta.

In the early 1990s, experts estimated that the annual industrial sewage entering the lake would reach 540 million tons and household sewage would reach 320 million tons. Spot checks conducted in 2000 indicated that total sewage surpassed 5.3 billion tons. GEC is presently negotiating with the Chinese Government officials, whose job is to solve the problem, to use its proprietary water cleaning process to help clean up the lake.

The Water Cycle and Water Management at a Lake

WATER RESTORATION TECHNOLOGY
Technology Overview

There are numerous technologies applied to the treatment of drinking water. More widely known techniques include membrane filtration, UV radiation, copper sulfate and chlorination. Global Ecology’s process uses a patented combination of copper sulfate and various acids to create a cutting edge alternative chemical treatment. More specifically, the formula can be classified as a "safe acid technology," or a micro-biocide with non-toxic applications in potable water and disinfection.

The process sterilizes water containing bacteria, viruses and pathogens using a non-corrosive chemical formulation that is innocuous when consumed by humans at prescribed levels. The product can also be manufactured in high quantities at a low price point. The Company believes the proper introduction of the technology to the international community will have an immediate impact on the world's water problems.

The combined copper sulfate and multi-acids formula create an algaecide, herbicide, fungicide and bactericide for use in selected water, sanitation and disinfectant applications. The product has been shown to have excellent efficacy against numerous bacterial and viral diseases as confirmed by numerous tests and EPA approval. Most notably, it has nearly identical short-term efficacy as chlorine, but lasts exponentially longer. It also does not affect water taste, is easier and safer to deploy than chlorine and is significantly less costly than all other competing products

The product distribution agreement grants GEC exclusive rights in selected countries, states, industries and government agencies to distribute this "safe acid" water treatment technology. The Company’s right to distribute and deploy the proprietary, patented product makes it a significant international distributor of this revolutionary approach to water purification. The Company is building its water purification business around the copper-based product to capitalize on a rapidly emerging, largely under-served billion dollar global market.

D i f f e r e n t i a t o r s

The combine formula is a superior technology with critical inherent advantages in efficacy, self-dispersion and environmental safety over the most popular existing chemical treatments. Within the water treatment space, the Company views its competitive advantages at two levels – corporate and product.
The product is specifically formulated for use in treatment of the drinking water supply and contains a unique chelate that produces higher concentrations of hydrogen ions in a variety of water conditions.

These ions bond with the copper ion (CU++) to keep it in suspension, which prevents the typical precipitation problems common in conventional water treatments. The unique chemical formulation allows the product to self-disperse in large bodies of water evenly throughout the water column. That represents a core, proprietary differentiator, as prior copper-based water treatments such as copper sulfate pentahydrate are broadcast directly on the surface of bodies of water, canals and streams with resulting concentrations being weaker at the surface and reaching toxic levels at the bottom.

Water Treatment Applications

Our copper/acids product allows for precise control of the water treatment process without the residual disadvantages, high cost and/or toxicity of other purification treatments. In addition to being a patented, proprietary formulation, the product has been extensively tested in the U.S. and Mexico, and is approved by the Environmental Protection Agency for use as an algaecide, bactericide, herbicide and fungicide.

Global Ecology's Water Purification System effectively controls the following:

• All forms of bacteria, viruses (enveloped, such as anthrax, and non-enveloped), fungus, filamentous and planktonic algae and spores;
• Midge and mosquito larvae development;
• Pathogens including E. coli, vibro cholera, legionella pneumophila, salmonella, streptococcus fecalis, listeria monocytogenes, shigella sonnei, pseudomonas aeruginosa, staphylococces aureus and other organisms;
• Odor in waste water and other water sources.

Applications include the following:
• Human drinking water; Lakes, ponds and lagoons;
• Dairy and fish farms; Field run-off water; Fruit and vegetable wash;
• Sewage systems; Rice fields; Reservoirs; Irrigation supply systems.
