UNIVERSAL DETECTION TECHNOLOGY INC., (NASDAQ: UDET)
May 31, 2002.

UNIVERSAL DETECTION TECHNOLOGY INC., (NASDAQ: UDET)

Editors Note:

Stockupticks is always on the lookout for companies that provide products and services that are relevant to current events because of the additional exposure and potential businesss that can be generated. Universal Detection (UDET) was featured in one of our Rapid Blasts last year at the height of the U.S. bio-chemical scare.  UDET's monitoring equipment for early detection of bio-chemical threats can provide ample warning to citizens and health officials.

Universal Detection is a leading provider of bio-terrorism detection systems and is positioned to capitalize on the rapidly growing demand for anti-terrorism devices and technologies.

In an address given on May 29th, U.S. Attorney General John Ashcroft and FBI Director Robert Mueller declared the number one priority of the FBI is to “protect the United States from terrorist attacks.”  Such declarations mark the rise of the anti-terrorist industry in the United States and spur demand for anti-terrorism technologies, such as those developed by Universal Detection.  The federal government is stepping up its efforts to bring new anti-terrorist products and technologies to market.  The $3.2 Billion 2001 Senate Bio-Terrorism Bill and the $38 Billion 2002 Homeland Security Budget are driving the rapid growth of the anti-terrorism sector.

FBI Director Mueller and Head of Homeland Security Tom Ridge have indicated in recent speeches that early detection of airborne agents is the prevailing trend in anti-bioterrorism initiatives. While the danger is real, measures do exist to combat this threat like the front-line detection system developed by UDET.

Universal Detection's Model 7001 pilot program was launched on May 22, 2002 with the participation of the Hilton Anaheim, in Anaheim, CA. The installation of the Model 7001 in the Hilton Anaheim will enable UDET to collect valuable field data and apply its technology in a practical, hands-on enevironment.  To read the entire news release: Click Here

Considering all of the activity in the bio-terrorism industry because of current events, many of the companies that provide products and services are fully valued and have already had their run.

Cephid (NASDAQ: CPHD) for example, produces technology that is designed to detect infinitesimal amounts of disease-causing agents and contaminants in food and water. Cephid had a $3-5 run from January through May of this year, a 66 percent jump in its market cap in 5 months.

With a $2 million dollar market cap, UDET is prepared for growth and is still largely undiscovered by the market.

About Universal Detection

Universal Detection Technology (Nasdaq: UDET) was founded in 1973 and went public in 1986.  The Company is a leading provider of bio-terrorism detection devices and technologies, and one of the very few publicly traded companies in this sector. Universal Detection’s core strategy is to leverage its proprietary technology, its R&D expertise, and its sales and distribution networks in North America, Europe, and Asia to capitalize on compelling growth opportunities in the anti-bioterrorism market.

The Company has executed an array of strategic alliances and partnerships with leading scientific institutes, software developers, and medical professionals, including, among others, Ricciardi Technologies, Inc., an award-winning software developer and integrator whose clients include the U.S. Army, Lockheed Martin, and Hughes Network Systems, and Universal Detection Chief Scientific Advisor, Dr. Leonard Makowka M.D, Ph.D, former Chairman of Surgery at Cedar Sinai in Los Angeles, California.

The market for Universal Detection’s bio-terrorism detection devices is enormous, including domestic and foreign federal governments, municipalities, universities, factories, hospitals, office buildings, stadiums, hotels, and other highly trafficked, high density areas.

Ongoing preparedness to deal with future threats and hostile actions is the motivation of Universal Detection.
Even workplace exposures can generate breathing hazards and UDET's equipment is designed to monitor a wide variety of airborne contaminants.

In November of 2001, UDET performed a study utilizing its Model 7001 (commercially available) for the detection of Bacillus Globigii (an Anthrax stimulant). The results were positive and the Company has begun a full-scale adaptation of this device for real time monitoring of biological and chemical weapons.

Everyday Pollutants

UDET, under its experienced management team, continues its history of R & D with both in-house science and engineering as well as through collaborative efforts with leading universities and research institutes. Experts agree that pollutants fill the air we breathe: pollens, dust, viruses, bacteria, animal dander, tobacco smoke, radon, airborne lead, toxic chemicals -all spewed into our breathing environment. However, knowing that the air is polluted and doing something about it are two different problems. The first problem is finding out what pollutants are in the air we breathe. UDET provides a solution to that problem.

The Series 7001 may be placed in any government, industry, sports or school environment. Preliminary plans and designs have been produced outlining how model 7001 can be modified such that it can detect the presence of biological and chemical warfare agents, as air is pumped in the device. With this information, steps can be taken to eliminate the pollutant or, if needed, provide treatment. The ultimate goal is to develop a fully-automated device that can be networked and placed in high-risk areas for constant real-time monitoring.

UDET's present model 7001 has been tested for its capability to collect small aerosolized particles (1 to 3 microns). Subsequent research activities shall focus on the best available detection technologies and the most efficient way of their integration into the device.

Wherever air may be polluted, monitoring is essential

The day will arrive when cities routinely install monitoring equipment.

UDET CEO Tizabi believes that the UDET units will be installed routinely much as smoke alarms are now used. He states that, in fact, with enough units strategically placed, entire cities can be monitored. "Furthermore," he says, "we can monitor the air so precisely that all information can be recorded on a central computer so that officials can determine where the pollutant exists, which direction it is moving, and its intensity."

UDET is positioned to become a first line of defense against biological terrorism.

The UDET system can be installed in airports, factories, even in airliners.

UDET products can identify dangerous toxins in short periods of time,
a critical factor in saving lives

UDET equipment can identify Anthrax and other ambient airborne threats.
