4th
of July Edition |
 |
Editors Note:
Has a 4th of July ever meant
more than it does today?
The Land of the Free, the
Home of the Brave. We utter
these phrases with a complacency and comfort akin to the faith
that each breath we draw will indeed contain the requisite oxygen
to sustain life. For years, we ushered in our nation's birthday
with hot dogs, beer, and fireworks, somehow removed from the sacrifices
of the valiant souls who gave life to this new nation.
But September 11 rang a bell in the ear of we
the people, and while today the StockUpTicks
team again intends to share the time off with friends and family,
we do so with a new, appreciative grasp of the uniqueness of our
way of life.
Recently, I had the opportunity to visit my grandfather's village
in Eastern Europe where a society exists between wars and armed
conflicts the way we ride the tide of bull and bear markets. At
one point, I found myself looking over a serene blue-green hillside
where my grandfather once stood, pondering the "what-if" consequences
of my existence had my father's father not passed through Ellis
Island so many years ago.
We are indeed the Land of the Free,
the Home of the Brave, and
as cliche' as it may sound, The Greatest
Nation on Earth, perhaps the greatest civilization
of all time, warts and all.
Today, with a depth of sincerity we had never known, StockUpTicks
pays tribute to the fathers and the keepers of this great country
with the most fitting homage we can provide, a
simple and heartfelt, "Thank
you."

It's
an American Thing |
 |
"It
is not simply one's right to criticize or question in a free
society,
but your obligation."
Fitting words for Americans, a society that prides itself on
the exercise of freedom of speech. At barber shops and grocery
stores, water coolers and backyard bar-b-ques, Americans let their
voices be heard. In honor of this 4th of July, we have chosen
to highlight one of our favorite Web sites, VoterVoices.com.
We have not been paid to tell you about VoterVoices
and it is not a public company or an investment opportunity.
In fact, it is costing us to mail to you about this free,
not-for-profit Web site. And we think it's worth it.

A free Social and Political
Message Board
Many of the StockUpTicks readers use financial message boards
like Raging Bull or Yahoo Finance as a venue for the exchange
of information and entertainment. People engage in lively debates
about the prospects of stocks and other investments, but until
recently no organized forum to debate the social and political
issues of the day existed.
VoterVoices.com has been
created as a free forum for
the exchange of opinions from across the nation. Have you ever
watched the news and wanted to shout back at the screen? Now you
can be heard and you won’t believe what other people are saying.
Here are just a few samples of specific
message boards at VoterVoices.
Click on any of them to go straight
to the debate:
The
Israeli-Palestinian Conflict. Should
Guns be Banned? Who
Should be the Next President? Should
Taxes be Decreased?
Should
Abortion be Illegal? Is
Air Travel Safe? The
Abduction of Elizabeth Smart.
There are several hundred categories on Campaigns,
Political Parties, Issues,
andOrganizations
like the N.A.A.C.P. or PETA, and maybe most importantly- your
neighborhood.
By clicking
here, you can go straight to our Regional
Discussions, where we have established message
boards for the discussion of politics, issues, and elected officials
in cities as big as New York and towns as small as Portage, Indiana.
If your town is not represented by some chance, VoterVoices will
build a message board for you.
You can now speak your mind about your community to a national
audience and your neighbors. Is the mayor getting the job done?
Do you know about a scandal? Look at what others near you
are saying.
