GigaBeam Corporation (Nasdaq: GGBM)
|
 |
Dear Reader,
True market disruptive technologies arrive most infrequently and when they do, their impact can affect not just their industry, but communities at large. For example, GigaBeam Corporation (NasdaqCM:GGBM), which deploys market disruptive 'wireless fiber optics' technology to economic centers across the globe, recently announced a major agreement; an order for five of its WiFiber(r) links from MetroNext, Inc., a next-generation wireless networks service provider operating in the densely-populated metropolitan Northeastern region of the U.S.
The WiFiber links will be deployed as a key component of the City of Boston's new WiFi pilot project. This news followed another recent announcement by GigaBeam regarding purchase orders for 24 additional WiFiber links from One Velocity Inc., a leading wireless telecom provider in the Western U.S. With GigaBeam demonstrating this level of traction, we think it's a great time to get acquainted with this exciting company. We encourage you to read the profile below and keep a watchful eye on upcoming news and events.

About GigaBeam Corp. |
 |
GigaBeam offers a truly unique investment opportunity with truly market disruptive wireless technology,
a pioneering management team and an established worldwide network dedicated to penetrating every major metropolitan market around the globe." CEO Louis Slaughter
Founded in January 2004 by two widely acknowledged experts in the field of millimeter wave wireless technology, GigaBeam Corporation's ("GigaBeam" "Giga" GGBM") primary product is the WiFiber® product line that has ushered in a new era of communications by allowing customers to bypass the restrictive telecom oligopoly and connect directly to any city's fiber optics hub or Point-of-Presence (POP). The disruptive impact of an easily deployable, low cost alternative to fiber optics cables is difficult to overestimate, especially since WiFiber's point-to-point high-speed units transmit data via the highest approved radio frequency at speeds equal to 641 T1 lines or 1000 DSL lines.
Current GigaBeam partners and customers include: Google, Verizon, ING, Sprint, and The Department of Defense, as well as several cities and universities such as San Francisco and Boston University. The Company has implemented an aggressive commercialization strategy to expand into major metropolitan areas around the world.
GigaBeam's visionary management team is fully committed to augmenting current revenues through a network of authorized dealers and resellers across North America, South America, Europe, Africa, the Middle East, India and Asia that have local expertise and established contacts. In short, GigaBeam offers a truly unique investment opportunity with market disruptive wireless technology, a pioneering management team and a worldwide network dedicated to penetrating major metropolitan markets around the globe.
WiFiber is an entirely new concept in point-to-point wireless technology. The Giga vision is to enable communications capacity delivery faster and less costly than previously possible. With the addition of WiFiber to the nation’s information backbone, many customers will now have access to video/data/voice at prices once unimaginable.
According to Cisco Systems’ exparte filing with the FCC (May 2003), less than 5% of the 750,000 commercial buildings in the United States have current access to fiber. The result has been a connectivity divide between the United States and numerous other countries. GigaBeam believes that widespread availability of high speed communications bandwidth will improve economic productivity, help close the digital divide, and improve the overall quality of life.
GigaBeam is the world-class proven commercial leader in multi-gigabit wireless communication solutions for the “entire last mile" that will manufacture, lease, install, and service high-speed point-to-point wireless communication access systems that are faster to deploy than fiber, more reliable than Free Space Optics (FSO), higher speed than microwave, and superior performance than any competing technology. GigaBeam’s products can be used to provide high speed/high performance solutions for the critical “last mile” gap between the fiber optic backbone and commercial buildings with:
Best Cost/Performance - Lowest Cost of Ownership
Smallest Footprint - Easiest Installation

The GigaBeam Competitive Advantage and Market |
 |
Proprietary technology coupled with superior systems architecture and state-of-the-art know-how enables GigaBeam to deliver a family of products with distinct competitive advantages. Superior link performance is achieved through use of unique technology from exclusive strategic partner relationships. GigaBeam links have more “link margin” than competitive products, allowing higher availability networks to be realized even in the most inhospitable environments. GigaBeam uses advanced system architectures and designs to deliver access systems that offer the lowest total cost of ownership (TCO).

GigaBeam Technology |
 |
The new FCC approved 71-76 GHz, 81-86 GHz, and 92-95 GHz frequency bands (13,000MHz) are the only bands that will enable carrier-grade multi-gigabit-per-second communications for the entire last mile. The physics associated with high-speed wireless communications require a large amount of spectrum with the lowest potential for atmospheric resistance (particularly in terrestrial environments) – characteristics uniquely provided by the spectrum bands pioneered for commercial use by GigaBeam founders.
GigaBeam Maximizes Wireless Spectrum Potential
GigaBeam technology maximizes the potential of the FCC authorized optimum frequency bands that enable multi-gigabit-per-second communications. Other frequency bands that support gigabit-per-second speeds cannot provide fiber-like reliability for the “entire last-mile”. As the graph indicates, the 60GHz frequency band is impeded by high oxygen absorption and FSO (light wave) frequencies are severely affected by fog.
GigaBeam Frequency Bands Enable Reliable Fiber-Like Speeds
GigaBeam technology uses the new FCC approved 71-76 GHz, 81-86 GHz, and 92-95 GHz frequency bands to provide reliable point-to-point two-way communications at up to 2.7 Gbps with 99.999% weather availability for about a mile through most of the U.S. Future systems will enable last-mile communications at 10 gigabits per second or OC-192.
Unique GigaBeam Technology Maximizes Performance
GigaBeam has assembled the best leading edge technology and has developed unique system architectures that delivers more power than anticipated offerings. GigaBeam’s improved “link margin” means significantly higher link performance, greater link availability, superior link range, and a smaller installation footprint than alternative offerings can deliver.

WiFiber for the "Entire Last Mile" |
 |
- Reduce Cost: by lowering or eliminating fiber deployment and access charges
- Reduce Risk: by increasing network resiliency through diverse access paths
- Reduce Time-to-Market: by reducing network backlog and deployment time
Security
GigaBeam links have very low probability of interception due to a narrow transmission beam-width (less than one degree).
In addition, GigaBeam provides high security levels by teaming with leading edge encryption providers to further improve security of transmissions.
